The Mongoose V1FP has been designed and built in Rockford, IL, USA by Ingersoll Machine Tools, Inc. using all the advanced technology and controls necessary for high efficient deposition on 3D complex parts. Programmed off line, the CNC-controlled system consists of a gantry system with a multi-axis end effector capable of manipulating UD fibers, as well as managing heat and compaction force for outstanding performances in spooling and deposition. The WAN machine is equipped with a Fiber Delivery Module (FDM) that offers lay-up of 16 tows x each 6,35 mm (1/4") width , expandable up to 24 x 12,7 mm (1/2"). The machine features a 6 axis continuous control based on the Siemens 840D Numerical Control, in a working area that exceeds 7 x 3 x 2 meter. The high dynamic of the mechanical structure allows deposition speeds and accuracies at industry top level. Additional features on the AFPM include real-time process monitoring, alarm descriptions and several others. Applications for this machine are merely infinite. The Ingersoll proprietary iCPS software suite is a huge aid for engineering and production, and features a direct link with practically all CAD and FEM main systems in the market.
The WAN staff is ready to make best use of these machine capabilities, both for development and production necessities. The transfer of composite experience from engineers of SONACA SA will also play an important role. The leading Belgian Aerospace Components Builder will host the Mongoose in its workshop adjacent to the WAN headquarters and will actively co-operate for pre-production series of CF parts.
